OU Outreach Receives Prestigious International Marketing Awards
The University of Oklahoma Outreach Marketing and Communication staff received eight 2010 MarCom Awards: three Platinum, two Gold, and three Honorable Mention. Winners were announced Tuesday, October 26, 2010.
The MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement in the marketing and communications field. Entries come from corporate marketing departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies, and freelancers.
The MarCom Awards is administered and judged by the Associate of Marketing & Communications Professionals. The Association oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and sets standards for excellence. There were almost 5,000 entries from throughout the United States and other countries in the 2010 MarCom Awards competition.
“I’m extremely excited about these awards for University Outreach because this represents the best creative in marketing and communications throughout the world,” said Dr. James P. Pappas, Vice President of University Outreach and Dean of the College of Liberal Studies (CLS).
University Outreach’s Melinda Russell, Graphic Designer in Marketing and Communication, received three MarCom Awards: Platinum for the “Master of Prevention Science Brochure,” Gold for the “Earn Your Degree” 2010 Football Magnet, and Honorable Mention for the “ACHE 2009 Annual Conference Program.”
Russell has been with University Outreach for over two years now and has received various awards from different competitions, but never a MarCom Award. “I am very excited to receive not only one award but three,” said Russell. “To receive a Platinum, Gold and Honorable Mention is a great honor.”
Bonny Million, Web Master in Marketing and Communication, has received an assortment of awards over her past eight years with the department, but these are her first MarCom Awards. Million received five MarCom Awards: Platinum for the electronic “2009 Outreach Holiday Card,” Platinum for the “Association for Continuing Higher Education” website, Gold for the “Accessible Tulsa” website, Honorable Mention for the “OU Outreach ‘Reaching Out’ Online Newsletter” website and an Honorable Mention for the “OU’s Center for Effective Schools” website.
“One MarCom Award is a very prestigious honor,” said Million. “But to receive five in website and electronic media overall is such an astounding feeling.”
Being a Platinum or Gold Winner is a tremendous achievement that is symbolized by the intricately detailed MarCom statuettes. The statuettes were designed and individually cast by the same artisans that craft the Oscar and Emmy Awards.
