Dick Pryor Named Manager of KGOU Public Radio

After a nationwide search, University of Oklahoma Outreach has named award-winning Oklahoma journalist Dick Pryor to manage KGOU, the NPR member station licensed to OU. He officially assumes the duties of general manager Nov. 14.

Pryor brings decades of experience in public television, having previously served as deputy director, managing editor, and news manager for OETA, Oklahoma’s statewide public broadcasting network. He is well known throughout the state for his work as anchor and host of news and public affairs programs, including coverage of Oklahoma government, politics and elections.

“We are delighted to welcome Dick Pryor as KGOU’s new general manager,” said James Pappas, vice president for outreach at OU. “Dick has gained wide visibility through his roles at OETA and elsewhere and he will make an outstanding leader and spokesperson for the station.”

Pryor succeeds Karen Holp, who retired Sept. 30. “Having known Dick for many years through the collaborations between public radio and television, I know I couldn’t be leaving KGOU in better hands,” Holp said.

“I’m excited to be returning to the University of Oklahoma and to build upon Karen’s legacy of public service at KGOU,” said Pryor.

A native of Norman, Pryor earned a B.A. in Journalism and a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma.  In 2015, he was chosen a Distinguished Alumnus of the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma, where he is an adjunct instructor of Mass Communication Law. Pryor was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 2009.

In addition to newsroom and station leadership, Pryor has served as news and sports anchor and reporter, talk show host, play-by-play announcer, public relations director for Oklahoma City’s professional baseball team and chief of staff for the lieutenant governor.  He has provided employment law and business coaching to corporate executives, managers and human resource professionals.
