Sooner Flight Academy Campers Take to the Sky

The Sooner Flight Academy has been in full swing this summer with a host of campers at Max Westheimer Airport, exploring the exciting fields of aerospace and aviation.

One special component of Sooner Flight Academy is flight day. Campers aged eight and older get to experience an educational orientation flight with a certified flight instructor. The below photos were taken on a special flight day, which included a group of kids who were first-time flyers at Sooner Flight Academy.

Ken Carson, director of OU Aviation, says that watching the kids fly for the first time is one of his favorite parts of his job.

“I love the energy with the kids, the wonderment,” Carson said. “If the kids get excited about discovering airplanes, then we’ve done our job.”
