Sooner Flight Academy Spring Break Day Camps a Huge Success
OU Outreach’s Sooner Flight Academy hosted their spring break day camps March 18, and March 19. Campers enjoyed two full days of OU Sooner Flight Academy hands-on math and science activities while also learning about aviation.
“These two-day camps were our most successful day camps yet. We maxed out our attendance and even had a waiting list,” said Matt Esker, director of Sooner Flight Academy.
On Monday, campers spent the day learning about magnets and magnetism. At the end of the day, students had the opportunity to go outside and fly kites.
The next day, students learned about the planet Mars and how robots explore the planet’s surface. Campers also learned about rockets and even built one of their own. Unfortunately, they were not able to launch the rockets due to high winds that day.
The spring break day camps were for elementary students and were held at the Sooner Flight Academy at the Max Westheimer Airport.
The Sooner Flight Academy’s mission is to “provide a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages inquiry and exploration with hands-on activities.” The goal is to inspire Oklahoma’s children to become leaders in the aviation industry and to promote the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.
